Il collare antiabbaio e' un collare piuttosto piccolo (circa 100 grammi) che ha due elettrodi di metallo. Sotto uno di questi due elettrodi, o comunque in una parte vicino ad essi, c'e' un laringofono che percepisce le vibrazioni delle corde vocali del cane. Quando il cane abbaia il laringofono lo percepisce e da ordine al collare di emettere una stimolazione elettrostatica, di amperaggio praticamente zero, che pero' da fastidio al cane. Questi associa l'abbaiare al fastidio e dopo 2/3 volte cessera' di commettere l'errore quando indossera' il collare. I livelli di stimolazione di solito sono regolabili. I collari antiabbaio possono essere alimentati da una batteria usa e getta o con un trasformatore (batterie ricaricabili) tipo ricarica del cellulare.
